Gay Days Anaheim Announces Headliners for September Event

Thursday July 15, 2021

The following is a press release from Gay Days Anaheim:

The 2021 Gay Days at Disneyland are set to take place from Friday, September 17, to Sunday, September 19.

In March 2020, Mini Gay Day became the last event at Disneyland before the lockdown, so it seems fitting that Gay Days is the first event back at the resort since its reopening! The event is expected to attract thousands of LGBTQ park-hoppers from California and all over the country. They will enjoy Disneyland in a way that can only be experienced during Gay Days. "RuPaul's Drag Race" favorite Jackie Cox will serve as the weekend's host.

Friday will be Broadway night with two icons of the stage. "An Intimate Conversation with Chita Rivera" will see the Broadway legend sitting down with theater historian Eddie Shapiro to discuss her storied career, including starring in the original productions of "West Side Story," "Bye Bye Birdie," "Chicago," and "Kiss of the Spider Woman." Friday, September 17, at 6:00 p.m. at Disney's Grand Californian. Tickets are $30 and $50 and are available now. Hotel. Proceeds will benefit Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS.

On Friday (September 17), at 8:00 p.m., "An Evening with Audra McDonald" will feature the Good Fight star and record-breaking six-time Tony winner in concert at the Grand Californian Hotel, joined by music director and pianist Andy Einhorn. McDonald frequently performs in cavernous venues like the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Carnegie Hall, so the opportunity to see her in an intimate setting is quite rare. McDonald earned Tony Awards for her work in "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill," "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess," "A Raisin in the Sun," "Ragtime," "Master Class," and "Carousel." Her stage work also includes Tony-nominated performances in "110 in the Shade," "Frankie and Johnny," and "Marie Christine." On-screen, she has appeared in "Ricki and the Flash," "Disney's Beauty and the Beast," the upcoming biopic "Respect," "A Raisin in the Sun," "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill," "Wit," and "Annie." She is known to television audiences for "Private Practice" and her current starring role on "The Good Fight." Tickets are $80 and $130.

Saturday (September 18) will be Gay Day at Disneyland, with a full day of activities and meet-ups scheduled in the park. The day culminates with KINGDOM, the weekend's signature party. The night will start with "RuPaul's Drag Race" darling Jackie Cox in her show, "JackieVision," at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Then, at 10:00 p.m., Jackie will cede the floor to DJ Kimberly S. and the dancing will begin! Tickets to both events are available both separately and as a bundle. KINGDOM will be held at House of Blues Anaheim.

Sunday (September 19) will be Gay Day at Disney's California Adventure with more in-park activities and the Gay Days Anaheim pool party, PLUNGE! from noon until 4:00 p.m. at the Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel. DJ Zach Moos will be spinning while mermaids splash around in the pool. Tickets are $25.

As the sun sets, we'll close the weekend with a pair of shows from more "RuPaul's Drag Race" royalty; At 6:00, Nina West will dazzle with her show, "The Wonderful World of Nina," and then at 8:00, fresh from "All Stars 6," Jan Sport will present "Jantasia!"

VIP ticket packages are available now.

Both days in the parks will feature gatherings only available over Gay Days weekend, including a scavenger hunt, a group photo, a lesbian ice cream social, group meet ups at varying attractions, and many more events targeted to families, teens, bears, couples and Mouseketeers of every ilk. A complete schedule is available at the Gay Days website

Other highlights of the weekend include the Gay Days Welcome Center (located inside the Trillium Room of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel), screenings of ABC pilots, and mixers.

Gay Days Anaheim is a "mix-in" with the park's other weekend guests, but gays and lesbians are encouraged to wear red shirts in order to identify each other and to show strong numbers. Official T-shirts are available at the official Gay Days at Disneyland website.

Gay Days Anaheim is not a Disney-sponsored event so Disney will not have any information regarding the "unofficial" happening.

Sponsors for the event include Ketel One, Howard Johnson Anaheim, Disney Vacation Club, Adventures by Disney, Aulani, and Wicked Sensual Care. Media sponsors are The Fight, Queerty, Rage, LA Blade and EDGE Media Network.
