RuPaul's DragCon in LA is Canceled Due to Coronavirus Concerns

Wednesday March 11, 2020

RuPaul's popular DragCon event in Los Angeles has been canceled.

The 2020 DragCon was set for a May 1-3 run at the Los Angeles Convention Center. But in a statement posted to the event's website, a message informs fans that DragCon has been called off this year due to concerns over the coronavirus.

"DragCon's first priority is always the health and safety of everyone involved and we've been actively tracking the situation around the coronavirus," the statement reads. "The situation in California (and the world) is rapidly changing, with new information coming out every day."

"Unfortunately, there's no way for anyone to know what the situation will be like in May," the statement goes on to say. "Due to that uncertainty, and out of an abundance of caution, we've decided that it's in the best interest of the talent, staff, and attendees to cancel RuPaul's DragCon LA 2020."

The post then says DragCon LA will return in 2021 "better than ever."

DragCon brings together a number of "RuPaul's Drag Race" stars, musicians and fans together where they can celebrate the art of drag.

Organizers also say they are working with Eventbrite to issue refunds to those who purchased tickets. Click here to read the statement in full.

DragCon U.K. was held in London in January.

DragCon is the latest high-profile event to be canceled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. The South by South West festival was canceled last week and the music festival Coachella has been postponed. As of this writing, there have been over 1,000 cases of coronavirus in the United States.
