Brookline theatre to show Prop. 8 documentary
Kevin Mark Kline READ TIME: 1 MIN.
A week-long run of 8: The Mormon Proposition begins at Brookline's Coolidge Corner Theatre on June 18.
The documentary traces the Mormon Church's decades-long battle against same-sex marriage and LGBT rights in general, as well as its historic role in California's Proposition 8, the measure that banned marriage equality in the state. The film is narrated by Dustin Lance Black, Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Milk.
The Coolidge is the only local movie theatre that will be showing 8 as part of its theatrical release. The film showed at the Boston LGBT Film Festival in May and is included in the lineup of the Provincetown Film Festival, to be held later this month.
