LGBT Supporters and Allies Win Primaries

LGBT allies were victorious in Tuesday's special primary elections.

In the statewide race to fill the open US Senate seat vacated by former US Senator John Kerry, longtime Congressman Ed Markey easily topped the Democratic primary and will be heading to the final. Markey was endorsed by MassEquality and Bay Windows.

On the Republican side, businessman Gabriel Gomez one a three-way primary. Gomez was endorsed by former Governor Bill Weld and supports the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act The general election for US Senate is June 25.

State Representative Linda Dorcena Forry won in a nailbiter in the First Suffolk District Senate Democratic primary. Dorcena Forry was endorsed by MassEquality and Bay Windows. GOP candidate Joseph Anthony Ureneck was unopposed in the primary.

The general election for the State Senate is May 28.
