Polish Town Bans Winnie the Pooh Over 'Dubious Sexuality'

Just like Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny and countless other cartoon characters, Winnie the Pooh does not wear pants. And that's OK. Because he's a cartoon - something some officials for a Polish city seem to not understand.

The Daily Mail reports that officials from the small Polish town of Tuszyn are banning Winnie the Pooh because of the kind-hearted bear's "dubious sexuality" and because he is "inappropriately dress" and is "half-naked." They also think Winnie is a hermaphrodite.

The officials even called the author of the cartoon character, A.A. Milne, "disturbing."

The bizarre ban comes after someone suggested the cartoon bear to be a mascot for a new children's playground in Tuszyn. But members of a council freaked out over the suggestion during a recent meeting, which was recorded by a councilor and then later leaked to the press, and said that Winnie the Pooh was a harmful influence for children.

"The problem with that bear is it doesn't have a complete wardrobe," councilor Ryszard Cichy, 46, said, according to the Daily Mail. "It is half-naked which is wholly inappropriate for children."

He then suggested a Polish fictional bear and said, "Ours is dressed from head to toe, unlike Pooh who is only dressed from the waist up."

The conversation then switched to the bear's sexuality.

"It doesn't wear underpants because it doesn't have a sex. It's a hermaphrodite," one councilor is heard saying. That's when councilor Hanna Jachimska started to talk about Milne.

"This is very disturbing but can you imagine! The author was over 60 and cut his [Pooh's] testicles off with a razor blade because he had a problem with his identity," she said.

Officials have yet to settle on an official mascot, but it definitely won't be Winnie the Pooh. And probably not Woody Wood Pecker, Daffy Duck, Squidward, Rocko, or Porky the Pig either.
