THIS is How Omar Apollo Prepared for His Full-Frontal Moment in 'Queer'

Actors have their own ways of getting ready for movie roles, but when it came to appearing in a full-frontal moment of nudity in his movie debut, Omar Apollo came up with a novel approach.
An out singer whose rise to fame has been meteoric, Apollo responded with "an immediate yes when asked to make his acting debut in Luca Guadagnino's 'Queer' opposite Daniel Craig," The Hollywood Reporter related.
"The A24 film finds him playing a hustler who has a steamy one-night stand with Craig's William Lee in Mexico City complete with a sex scene and full frontal nudity," THR added.
The prospect of baring all for the camera didn't faze Apollo... much. "It was cool," the 27-year-old heartthrob said. "I didn't think too much about it. I really trusted Luca and the cast and the story."
That said, "he did admit to taking a look in the mirror and snapping a nude selfie to send to a friend just for some reassurance," THR noted.
"I did that," Apollo told the entertainment news outlet. "I took a picture and sent it to a friend. I was like, 'You think I'm good?'"
The answer, it would seem, was obvious.
The pic, Apollo teased, "is on my phone. Probably in a group chat."
Apollo might not have been quite as sanguine as he suggested to THR; he had previously regaled the press with the story of how he went "on the soup diet" in order to match the description of his character in the screenplay, penned by Guadagnino's "Challengers" collaborator Justin Kuritzkes.
"I lost 20 pounds because I read in the script that my character had a flat brown stomach," Apollo told costar Drew Starkey in a conversation the two had for Interview Magazine. "I was like, 'Damn, I'm actually not flat right now.'"
Apollo made it a point to say that dieting was his own idea, telling Starkey, "Luca did not tell me to lose weight, but when you're about to have a sex scene with Daniel Craig, you're like, 'Oh, dude, I can't be looking off.'"
Otherwise, Apollo seemed not only unconcerned about his raw debut in feature films, but keen for it to be seen and appreciated.
"See, I'm from Indiana," the "Spite" singer told THR. "That's a very conservative state but I hope I open somebody's mind out there."
Referencing the recent election, he added, "Especially now, I'm even more proud to be in a film like this.... This film coming out at this time, specifically, I think it's going to help a lot."
