"Clueless" star Alicia Silverstone is diving back into her "Clueless" persona. She'll be starring again as Cher Horowitz in a new TV series based on the beloved 1995 comedy.

"The show is currently in development," Variety reported. "Exact plot details are being kept under wraps aside from the fact the show will serve as a follow-up to the cult classic film."

"Silverstone will executive produce in addition to starring. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film, and Robert Lawrence, who produced the film, also serve as executive producers," Variety continued.

Writers Stephanie Savage, Josh Schwartz, and Jordan Weiss are also executive producing.

The article noted a trend on television of revisiting 1990s movies and TV shows, "includ[ing] Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising the role of Buffy in a 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' followup pilot at Hulu and much of the 'Malcolm in the Middle' cast reuniting at Disney+."

This will be the third bite at the TV series apple for "Clueless," after director Amy Heckerling created a TV version of her hit film in 1996. That series ran for three seasons, first on ABC and then on UPN.

An abortive TV reboot began development at CBS in 2019, then was bounced to NBC streamer Peacock in 2020, but was eventually dropped.

"This is a wholly new 'Clueless' series," Variety noted, adding that the Peacock effort, "with a completely different creative team, was described as more of mystery series in which Cher disappeared and focused instead on her best friend, Dionne."
